Arthur B. Gedeon, 89, of Linesville, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at his residence.
Born September 15, 1924, in Warren, Ohio, he was the son the Geza and Helen Nahalka Gedeon. He married Violet G. Kessman on May 15, 1948 at St. Mary’s Church in Warren, Ohio. He and his wife moved to Linesville in 1990.
He served our country in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1946. For 47 years, he worked for Packard Electric as an electrician and retired in 1989.
Arthur was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville. Also, he was a member of the Pymatuning Sportsman’s Club in Linesville, NRA, Trumbull County Rod and Gun Club, Ohio Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a lifetime member of the Moose International Lodge and American Legion.
He was assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 27 and 25 of Champion, Ohio. Arthur loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Violet Gedeon; seven children, Kathleen Zeleny and her husband, Paul, of Newton Falls, Ohio, Mary Ann Silman of Linesville, Richard Gedeon of Sandy Lake, Robert Gedeon and his wife, Samantha, of Yuma, Arizona, Susanne Gedeon and her companion, Gregg Sichner, of Mentor, Ohio, Thomas Gedeon and his wife, Melody, of Warren, Ohio, and Barbara Williams and her husband, Mark, of South Charleston, West Virginia; 16 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Hipple and her husband, Waldo, of Warren, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Gregory Silman; and eight siblings, Helen Check, Irma Myers, Ted Gedeon, Mary Wilson, and Rudolf, Joanne, Ernie and Elizabeth Gedeon.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville, with Father Denny Veltri as celebrant. Full military honors provided by Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be conducted at the church.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made in Arthur’s name to St. Philip Church or the Cleveland Clinic, Children’s Cancer Unit.
