Betty Mae Haines

Linesville

     Betty Mae Haines, 95, of Linesville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 21, 2025, at her residence. 

     Born August 30, 1929, in St. Marys, PA she was the daughter of Charles Clifford and Martha May (Rice) Barr. She married Leslie Haines on March 17, 1951, at Sacred Heart Church in St. Mary’s. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2001. 

     Betty Mae graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She studied as an accountant, stopping to raise her three children, then earned a Bachelor’s in Education from Waynesburg University and a Master’s in Education from Edinboro University. For over 25 years she was an Elementary Teacher in the Conneaut School District. She was named Outstanding Married Woman for 1967 and chosen as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1973.

     Betty Mae was a member of the Linesville United Methodist Church where she was very active, attending Sunday school and Bible studies. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, reading, and swimming. She loved science and nature. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. 

     Survivors include two sons, David (Cynthia) Haines of Andover, Ohio, and Dennis (Rebecca) Haines of Linesville; a son-in-law, Taylor Searfoss of Bethlehem; 11 grandchildren, Leslie (Juan) Barra, Krista (Tim) McNulty, Douglas Haines, Katie (John) Shaw, Betsy (Jason) Norton, Laura Searfoss, Susannah Haines, Lee Ann Searfoss, Matthew Searfoss, Sarah Anne Cooper and Nathaniel Haines; and 19 great-grandchildren. 

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sharon Searfoss; and a sister, Helen Breindel. 

     Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

     Burial will be private in McKean Memorial Park in McKean County.

     The family would like to thank her caregiver, Krystal Kaster, for the loving care and kindness she provided. 

     Memorial contributions may be made to the Linesville United Methodist Church, 334 W. Erie St., Linesville, Pa 16424. 

     Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
