Carol Faye (Chatley) Smith
April 4, 1937 — March 4, 2015
Carol Faye Smith, 77, of Linesville, passed away in her home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, after a sudden illness.
She was born April 4, 1937 the daughter of Lawrence N. and Vivian L. Orr Chatley.
Faye was a 1955 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1958 graduate of Meadville Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Meadville City Hospital until 1965, then at Greenville Regional Hospital in the newborn nursery until her retirement in 1994.
Faye touched all those with whom she came into contact with her quick wit and saucy sense of humor. An avid gardener and crafter, she worked to make her corner of the world a more beautiful and cheerful place. She had a special fondness for Siamese cats, and passed on this appreciation for animals to the rest of her family. Above all, Faye will be remembered as an exemplar of the kindness of the human spirit: she was generous, loving, and resilient, remaining positive and thankful throughout her entire life.
She is survived by her loving partner, Lloyd, and numerous family members who were blessed to have her as their feisty matriarch: her children, Lawrence Smith, Hugh Smith and his wife, Sandra, and Carole Walker; her grandchildren, Rebecca Walker and her husband, Chuck Groenink, Matthew Smith, Kristin Keyes and her husband, James, and Justin Smith; a sister, Beverly Wykoff and her husband, Don; as well as many nieces and nephews and her beloved Siamese cats, Ming and Ling.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Richard Hugh Smith who passed away on June 21, 2001.
As per her request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in Linesville Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U. S. Highway 6, Linesville.
