Duane Gordon Martin, 69, of Linesville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at his residence.
Born November 18, 1946, in Meadville, he was the son of Arthur John Martin and Dorothy Ann Tenney. He married Joan G. Robison on April 26, 1975, in Pennline; she preceded him in death on June 7, 2010.
He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 until he was honorable discharged and retired from the Army in 1972. Duane was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Bronze Star Air Medal and a Purple Heart for his service.
Since 1972, he was a life member of the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Post 7842. Duane also was a member of the Lineville American Legion Auxiliary, Post 462 for 42 years.
He enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Duane loved studying history and politics. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Survivors include five children, Deborah A. Whiteside and her fiancé, Scott Shaffer, of Linesville, Heather G. Scovil and her husband, Bob Titus, of Linesville, Glenn R. Scovil and his wife, Lynn, of Jamestown, Pa, Deadra D. Weaver of Girard and Shannon J. Kuehne of Reynoldsville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Erin, Zachary, Diamond, Amathist, Christian, Nicholas and Mason; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Anthony, Trenton, Brendan, Jaxson, Jillian, Kyle and Jason; his siblings, Jessy Martin, Alice Martin, Alan Martin, Carol Hall, Sandra Hildum, Barbara Ahrt, Terry Yarnell and Larry Yarnell and their respective families.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Martin; his parents, Arthur and Bernice Martin and Dorothy and Bill Yarnell; and four siblings, Clifford Sinko, Gary Martin, Judy Woodworth and Samuel Martin.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Full military honors will follow the funeral service.
As per his wishes, cremation will then take place.
