Earl L. Abbott Jr., 76, of Conneaut Lake, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Meadville Medical Center after a one and a half year courageous battle with liver cancer caused by the Camp Lejeune water contamination.
Born June 14, 1947, in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of Earl and Gertrude (Weddle) Abbott. He married Carol Ann Henderson on January 23, 1967. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2012.
He attended Conneaut Valley High School and received his high school diploma from CASH in 2015 through a program for war veterans that were not able to finish high school.
Earl served our country during the Vietnam War as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp from 1964 until he was honorably discharged in 1968.
He worked his whole life as a truck driver and retired in 2018 from Lakeland Sand and Gravel.
Earl loved riding his motorcycle and driving his truck. He spent his winters at Pensacola Beach in Florida. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Whalen and her companion, Ron Bone, of Conneaut Lake and Connie Walker and her husband, Darry, of Greenville; a son, Earl Abbott and his wife, Melissa, of Linesville; son-in-law, Dan Whalen of Linesville; four grandchildren, Racheal Goodman of Meadville, Brittany Abbott of Meadville, Anthony Abbott of Erie and Zackery Abbott of Linesville; two great-grandchildren, Amaya and Ian; four siblings, James (Pete) Abbott and his wife, Judy, of Meadville, Donna Badger of Sheffield, Roger Abbott and his wife, Melody, of Conneautville, and Albert Abbott of Fairview; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Roy Abbott.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Earl’s son-in-law, Darry, and his grandson, Zackery, for the loving care they provided during his last few months.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25 at the funeral home with Rev. Marshall Lillie officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Harmonsburg.
Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
