It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister and aunt, E. Jane Stewart McDermott, 89, of Linesville and Lakeland, Florida on Friday, March 15, 2024.
Born May 3, 1934, she was the daughter of Robert N. and Irene Shellito Stewart. She married Phillip John McDermott on September 14, 1996 in Longmont, Colorado.
Jane was a 1952 graduate of Linesville High School, a 1956 graduate of Grove City College with a Bachelors in Music Education and a Masters of Education from Kent State University.
She was employed as an elementary music educator in Conneaut, Ohio for one year and then Linesville, Summit and Graham Elementary schools and Shafer Elementary in Linesville for 35 years. Every year she involved her students in wonderful Christmas plays and spring musical concerts mostly with standing room only.
She took pride in the achievements of her music students and enjoyed their visits as adults later in life. Every student today has a fond memory of Miss Stewart.
As a young girl on her farm, she enjoyed her pony, Babe, and adored her grandpa, Fred B. Stewart. Her first job was delivering milk before school on the Stewart Dairy milk wagon.
Throughout her career, she was choir director, organist and pianist at the Linesville Presbyterian Church where she was a member close to 80 years. She has played for many weddings.
She enjoyed golf, socializing, and her travels to Panama Canal, Bahamas, Europe, most all states especially Colorado and her winter home in Lakeland, Florida.
A kitchen party of family and friends was always enjoyed by Jane where she told stories, shared family history, and much laughter was enjoyed by all. Her taco Tuesday outings were the highlight of her week.
She is survived by a brother, Fred H. Stewart; fifteen nieces and nephews, who were true to her heart and with whom she spent many special times with, Ken (Renee) King, Robert King, Ron (Karyn) King, Alan (Chris) King, Linda King Grinder, David (Debra) Stewart, Kathryn Stewart Wielobob (Dave), Paul (Lisa) Stewart, Thomas (Carolyn) Stewart, John Stewart, Jennette (Roger) Martenson, Sandra (Padric) Swift, Ron Mika, Fred Stewart, Robert (Corrine) Stewart; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Shirley King and Sue Stewart Mika; and a brother, James R. Stewart.
