Gearldene M. (Gerry) Dougherty, 90, of Linesville, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Rolling Fields in Conneautville , where she had resided for the past 4 1/2 years.
Born October 1, 1924, in Meadville, she was the daughter of Matthew H. and Mary Susan Durbin Lake. She married Russell P. Dougherty on December 14, 1940 in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2000.
She was a 1940 graduate of Meadville High School. She then attended community college at Merchants Bank to learn typing and other business skills.
In her younger years, Gerry had worked at Spencer Hospital in Meadville for five years. She worked at the Crawford Store in Meadville for 25 years. She had also worked part-time for Jones Flooring in Linesville.
She was a member of the Linesville First Baptist Church and the Rota Literary Club in Meadville. Gerry loved square dancing and was a member of the Konneaut Kickers in Conneaut Lake and the Happy Hashers square dance group in Meadville. She and her husband, Russell, had won many dance contests. She also enjoyed teaching dance.
Gerry loved being outdoors working in her flower beds and enjoyed camping with family and friends. She collected porcelain dolls that she learned to make in classes. Gerry loved her family and cherished her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Paul E. Dougherty and his wife, Judy, of Pickton, Texas and Dennis R. Dougherty and his wife, Gleeda, of Meadville; an adopted daughter, Sharyl Jockel and her husband, Scott, of Conneaut Lake; her grandchildren, Robert, Bill, Crystal, Brenda, Renee, Cindy, Scott and Denise; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edgar Lee Lake and his wife, Joan, of Sharpsville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Faye Hogan; and a sister, Imogene Lewis.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Joel Weck, Senior Pastor of the Linesville First Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be private in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Meadville.
