George A. Rahn, 63, born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Feb. 22, 1951, of Fontana, Calif., formerly of Linesville, passed away unexpectedly in Nagoya, Japan, on Friday, March 7, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rose Rahn and Henry Rahn; and a brother, Henry.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia Rahn of Meadville; sister, Judy Hinds and husband, Larry, of Meadville; sister, Diane Lininger Rahn of Modesto, Calif.; sister, Sherry Rahn of Linesville; brother, Randy Rahn and wife, Carol, of Andover, Ohio; sister, Rose Sochor and husband, Jeff, of Linesville; several nieces and nephews whom he loved spending time with; several great-nieces and nephews; also cousins.
George was a 1969 graduate of Linesville High School, was a U.S. Navy veteran and graduated from Allegheny College in 1978. He moved to California and got a master’s degree in economics. He attended California State University at Stanislaus, Calif. He did graduate work in anthropology, geology and public administration. He loved helping people, protecting endangered species and endangered cultures. He taught English as a second language at Paradise Road Community Bridge School.
He traveled to the Philippines through the Outreach Program from Christ Episcopal Church, pursued his doctorate through Trinity College of Quezon, studied Philippine history and culture and taught English as a second language.
He also traveled to Indonesia, Korea and Japan teaching English as a second language. He became friends with a lot of people everywhere he went. He loved coming back to the home in Linesville where he grew up. He also loved sitting around a bonfire with family.
George was a very caring person. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Calling hours will be Saturday, July 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Jonathan D. Wagner of the Calvary Baptist Church in Linesville officating.
Full military honors provided by Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will follow.
