Henry Lee (Hank) Sparber Sr.

Henry Lee (Hank) Sparber Sr., 78, of Linesville, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Westbury in Meadville, after a lengthy illness.

Born July 29, 1935, in Meadville, he was the son of Charles F. Sparber and Della I. Walruth Sparber.  He married his loving wife Evelyn on November 1, 1955 in Philadelphia.

He was a graduate of Linesville High School.  Hank served our country in the United States Navy on the USS New Jersey and the USS Monterey.

Hank retired from True Temper in Union City after many years.  After his retirement, he worked as a custodian for the Conneaut School District.  He had also worked at Western Auto and was manager of Big Bear Gas Station both in Linesville.

He was a member of the Penn Line Church of Christ in Pierpont, Ohio and had served as a deacon.

Hank was a former president and a member of the Penn Line Grange.  For over 40 years, he was involved with the Fire Police for the Linesville Volunteer Fire Department and had volunteered for many community events in Crawford and Ashtabula counties.   Also, he was involved with the Fire Police for Company 38 for over ten years.

He enjoyed riding his bike around the Penn Line community.  Hank was well known for giving out atomic fireballs and candy to everyone.   He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn D. Sparber; two daughters, Rachelle Vega and her husband, Eric, and Lois Lynn Sparber; a son, Hank Sparber Jr. and his wife, Tammy; four grandchildren, James Lytle and his wife, Rachel, Kevin Lytle, Ashley Sparber and Shawna Burwell; a grandson, Cameron Lytle; and four sisters, Alice Metaxa, Jean Russell, Lola York and Ruth Meleski and her husband, Jerry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and five brothers.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.  Additional calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Rank, retired pastor of the Penn Line Church of Christ, officiating.

Burial and committal will be in Penn Line Cemetery in Conneaut Township.  Full military honors will be provided by Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
