Howard Leroy Phyllis Jr.

December 10, 1932 — February 20, 2023

Howard (Phil) Leroy Phyllis Jr., 90, of Espyville, passed away, Monday, February 20, 2023, at Andover Village Nursing Home.

Born December 10, 1932, in Adamsville, he was the son of the late Howard and Bernice (Snow) Phyllis. He married Dorothy McCune and she preceded him in death.  Howard later married Dona Jewart.

He was a 1950 graduate of Linesville High School.  He served our country in the Marines from 1951 until 1954 and was overseas in Korea for a year.  Howard was awarded a United Defense Medal, Korean Medal and two Bronze Stars for bravery.

He was a retired plumber and for 27 years he was superintendent and estimator for Mid Florida Plumbing in Boynton Beach, Florida.  He also worked on Beckel Nuclear Power Plant on Hutchinson Island, Florida and as a Cryogenic Technician for Bendix in Cape Canaveral, Florida.  He had also helped put fuel in Apollo II.  Locally he had worked four years at Meadville Hospital in security.

Howard loved woodworking with oak.  He loved his two birds Smokey and Tiko and his dogs Princess and Bobby Boo.  He had many great friends and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include three children, Peggy Jo (Southwick) Rozalski of Linesville, Rusty Allen Phyllis of Del Ray Beach, Florida and Colleen Michele; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Bobbi Jo, Rusty and Benjamin; four great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Garlick and Rosalie Merchant; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Phyllis; two brothers, Harry and Robert McGrath; and his first wife, Dorothy McCune.

As per his wishes, cremation was chosen and there will be no services.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Shenango Volunteer Fire Department, 2887 State Hwy 285, Espyville, PA  16424.

Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
