Jack O. Wright, 84, of Linesville passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020, with his wife and daughters by his side, at Wesbury Retirement Community in Meadville.
Born January 12, 1936, in Huntingdon, PA, he was the son of Howard and Viola (Freyermuth) Wright. He married Patty K. Sample on November 25, 1959 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Meadville.
He was a 1954 graduate of Cochranton High School.
Jack served our country in the United States Navy AIRR as a mechanic from 1956 until honorably discharged in 1959 as a result of an accident while working on an aircraft at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. He received third degree burns over 60% of his body and wasn't expected to live, but he was determined to get back to the States and the love of his life, which pulled him through.
He learned the carpentry trade while working for his uncle, Arden Freyermuth, of Freyermuth Builders in Meadville and retired in 2005. He enjoyed building furniture for his family and friends and will be remembered for his life-long hobby of antique and classic cars, which was shared with Patty.
Jack has been a member of the Linesville United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. Additionally, he was a past member of the Pine Masonic Lodge 498 in Linesville and the Zem Zem Shriners of Erie.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patty, of 61 years; a son, Todd Wright, and his wife, Kelli, of Clearwater, Florida; two daughters, Rhonda Hershelman and Jaklyn Williams, both of Meadville; four grandchildren, Kaylyn, Wesley and his wife, Susie, T.J. and his wife, Brittany, Tanner and his wife, Emily; and four great-grandchildren, Todd III, Dario, Brailey, and Owen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Soper.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Hwy 6, Linesville.
Additional viewing will be Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wesley Hershelman, grandson, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Linesville Cemetery.
