Jean Kathryn Whitmer, 68, of Linesville, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012, at her residence after a brief courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 2, 1944 in Meadville, she was the daughter of Paul and Ada Hart Donley.  She married Kenneth R. Whitmer on December 29, 1967.  He preceded her in death on December 2, 2010.

She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1962.  Jean then received her teaching degree from Clarion University in 1967.   For over 30 years, she was a teacher for the Conneaut School District.  She started teaching third and fourth grade at Graham Elementary School in Linesville and later taught remedial math at Greenwood Elementary School in Conneaut Lake.

Jean had attended New Lebanon Community Church in Sandy Lake.  She was a member of the Pymatuning Sportsman’s Club in Linesville and had attended the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842 in Linesville with her husband.  She was also a member of TOPS in Linesville.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, couponing and shopping with her mother and sister.  Also, Jean enjoyed attending picnics and gatherings where her husband, Kenneth, would play in county music bands.  Jean loved her family pets and cherished the time she spent with her granddaughters.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie White and her companion, Mark Hoegerl, of Linesville; a son, Sam Whitmer of Linesville; three granddaughters, Marissa White, Miranda White and Jozianna Hoegerl; a sister, Ruth Cripps and her husband, Gerry, and their daughter, Jennifer Ludlum and her husband, Joe, and their daughter, Lizzie all of Stone Mountain, Georgia; and a brother, James Donley of Stoneboro and Lilburn, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenneth.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U. S. Highway 6, Linesville.

A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Richard Steinlechner, Pastor of the New Lebanon Community Church in Sandy Lake, officiating.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s name to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Dr., Pittsburgh, Pa 15205-4620.
