On Pearl Harbor Day we lost yet another member of that elite club, The Greatest Generation.

John Daniel Enie, 93, of Elizabethtown, Pa, formerly of Linesville, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown.

Born December 2, 1920 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Joseph Enie and Doris McKay.  He married Laura (Mike) Mary Trew on December 27, 1941; she preceded him in death on December 17, 2012.

He retired from Rockwell in Ashtabula, Ohio, after twenty-one years of service.   John was a Merchant Marine and then an Army soldier, was one of a rare breed of men who were strong and tough, yet gentle and kind.  A man who did things for others and preferred that no one knew.

John was good at everything he did.  Whether driving a ball down the fairway, climbing his beloved Allegheny Mountains on his dirt bike, waiting in a tree stand for a buck, or coaching a grandchild to land a trout, he was in his element.

His greatest love, however, was his family.  The trout fishing trips with the guys and the excursions to Lake Erie with his son and nephew were always highlights of the year and great fodder for stories to come.

Holiday dinners surrounded by Mike and his entire family were events that he truly loved and looked forward to.  He got such a kick out of the little ones and lying on the floor playing with them.  He was their Baboo.

This man will be sorely missed and remembered by family and friends.  And although he did not write the song for Sinatra he did certainly live it.  Dad did it his way.

Survivors include her a daughter, Carol D. Willis and her husband, Carl, of Schnecksville, Pa; a son, Mark J. Enie and his wife, Marion, of Higganum, Connecticut; three grandchildren, Candy Wingate and her husband, Don, of Laurys Station, Pa, Faith Reese and her husband, John, of Jackson, New Jersey and Cathy-Jo Kanterman and her husband, Rob, of Cranford, New Jersey; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gloria Dryna of Lake City, Pa and Nelda Higgans of Mars, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mike, a brother, Joseph Enie and sister Janice (Jay) Ryder.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.  An additional calling hour will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, with the Reverend Dennis Lawton of the Linesville United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be private in Linesville Cemetery.
