John F. Gibson, 84, of Linesville, passed away after an extended illness on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at PA Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie.
Born November 6, 1934, in Meadville, he was the son of Francis and Grace (nee Shannon) Gibson. He married Amelia (Amy) Hannaford on April 4, 1959 at St. Agatha Church in Meadville.
He was a graduate of Conneaut Lake High School. John served our country in the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii. For over 40 years, he was employed by Talon in Meadville as a Tool and Die Maker and was one of the last employees when they closed. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists.
John was a member of St. Philip Church in Linesville. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6037.
He truly loved being outdoors, enjoyed farming on the family farm for over 60 years and loved driving his John Deere tractor. John was very handy and also enjoyed carpentry, remodeling his home and deer hunting on his land.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Amelia (Amy) Gibson; two sons, Greg Gibson and his wife, Svetlana, of Mentor, Ohio and Tim Gibson and his wife, Suzette, of Waldorf, Maryland; a daughter-in-law, Maureen Gibson of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Nick and his wife, Sara, Alex, Arianne, Olivia, Hayden, Matthew and William; a brother, Ken Gibson; and a sister, Katherine McCluny.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Gibson; two brothers, Rodger and Bob Gibson; and a sister, Maury Willey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville with Father Chris Hamlett as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass at the church.
Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Philip Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to St. Philip Church.
