Joseph M. Hoegerl, 95, of Linesville, formerly of Guys Mills, passed away at home with his family at his side on December 2, 2013. He was born on November 30, 1918 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania.
He had a long wonderful life. He suffered from a stroke in 2004 and then came to live in Linesville with his son Richard and his wife Patty and their three sons whom cared for him the last nine years.
He was married June 16, 1938 to the love of his life, Rose Capanio. Joseph was a World War II Army Veteran and then graduated from Allegheny College. He then became a chemist at the American Viscose where he retired in 1981 as a department head. They had an annual reunion every summer that he loved to attend. His coworkers loved to tell how “he was the best boss they ever had.”
Joseph was known as a quiet, gentle extremely intelligent man. He was a wonderful loving, kind, husband, father, son, brother and most importantly grandfather. He loved each one of his grandchildren and had great memories of all of them. In proving his intelligence he has patents in his name for devices he invented to improve yarn quality. He had made his own first computer. Joseph was a ham operator which came in very handy during the devastation of the 1985 killer tornadoes in our area.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rose, his son Frederick Hoegerl, and a grandson Jason Hoegerl.
Survivors include a daughter, Dallas Folmar Behan and her husband, Larry, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sons, Thomas Hoegerl and his wife, Karen, of Edinboro and Richard Hoegerl and his wife, Patty, of Linesville; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Hoegerl. He was loved by his nine grandchildren, Shawn and Jady Folmar and Mark, Steven, Quentin, Aaron, Jamie and Michael Hoegerl, and Samantha Stump; nine great-grandchildren, Shawn, Jady, Brody, Joe, Ryanne, and Julia Folmar, Jay and Ricky Hoegerl and Maddi, Ryan and Spencer Ashe.
