On Friday, April 24th, 2020, Kathryn Blanche (Hulse) Stewart, age 91, passed away peacefully at Dublin Assisted Living and Memory Support in Dublin, Ohio. She had suffered from dementia for several years.
Kathryn was born on February 26th, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio to Edgar and Hazel (Westerman) Hulse. She attended Bowling Green University in Ohio and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. It was there that she met her future husband, Claire McKay Stewart, Jr. They were married at the Chapel of Friendly Bells in Youngstown, Ohio on March 3, 1951. Shortly after her marriage, Kathy received her Bachelor of Arts in Education. Claire and Kathy raised three children before she started her teaching career as a Kindergarten and Preschool teacher. She later received her Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University in June, 1971. Kathy was much loved by her co-workers and her students.
Her role as a teacher included developing and supervising craft projects for her students, and her natural skills led her to pursue crafts on her own and with friends and family. She had a talent for sewing, and many afternoons were filled with projects and fabric shopping excursions. She passed her love of sewing to her daughter, Sara, and could easily have used their combined talents to start their own business. She also enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. After retiring, she and her husband Claire traveled the country in their Avion trailer, and would take their grandchildren with them over the summer on group Rendezvous’ and Travelcades that would take them from coast to coast. Her lifelong circle of friends continued to grow, and was wide and varied.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her daughter, Sara Kathryn Stewart Votroubek. She is survived by her husband Claire; her sister, Marjory (Hulse) Megla; two sons, Claire III (Patti) Stewart and James (Gerilyn) Stewart; grandchildren, Brent (Carissa) Votroubek, Spencer (Melissa) Votroubek, Kara and Blake Stewart; great grandchildren Calvin, Karra, Kaydence and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
