Laurence “Larry” Martin Crom, 83, of Espyville, departed this world after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Larry spent his final days at home surrounded by family and friends.
Larry entered the world on February 26, 1939, in Warren, Ohio. He was a son of the late Lauree M. and Marian “Meg” A. (Myers) Crom. He married Mary Kathryn Keene on June 16, 1962, in Quarryville.
Larry graduated from Conneaut Lake High School in 1957 where he served as senior class president. He graduated from Penn State University in 1961 with BS in Dairy Science. He was a brother at Delta Theta Sigma fraternity and served as president and treasurer. Larry was a lifelong dairy farmer and in his later years was employed by Tractor Supply in Meadville. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with family especially as grill master for the annual family barbecue.
Larry was a leader in the community and agriculture industry throughout his life. He served as South Shenango Township supervisor for 18 years. He was an active 4-H member and leader for over 40 years. He was a founding member and first president of Crawford County 4-H Council. Larry was involved in the Registered Holstein industry including showing cattle at the first PA State Junior Dairy Show and first NW PA Dairy Show and serving on the Board of Directors and in various leadership positions for the Crawford County Holstein Club. Additionally, he served on the Crawford County Extension Board, DHIA Board of Directors, and ASCS Committee. In recognition of his lifelong leadership in Ag, Larry was a recipient of the Crawford County Agriculture Hall of Fame Award.
Surviving family includes his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Kathryn; four daughters, Anna Belle (Bill) Deitrick of New Columbia, Pam (Lee) Marburger of Espyville, Emily (Adam) Hatton of Evergreen, Colorado, and Sarah (Jarrett) Hunter of Guys Mills; six grandchildren, Katie (Jason) Miller, Jaci (Bill) Mickle, Billy (Jenn) Deitrick, Grace Deitrick, Sawyer Hatton, and Chance Hatton; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ken Crom of Cochranton.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville. Visiting hours will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. preceding the service.
