Merton E. Simons, 83, of Linesville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at the Meadville Medical Center.

Born March 29, 1932, in Bradford, he was the son of Miles E. Simons and Kathleen Heaston.

He was a graduate of Bradford High School.  Merton then served our country in the United States Army and was on the front lines during the Korean War.  He received a Purple Heart for his bravery.

He worked for Abex Corporation in Saegertown as an A-1 machinist and worked on aerospace parts.

Merton was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bradford.  He also was a member of the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842 and a lifetime member of the Linesville American Legion Post 462.

In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, golfing and building decks.  He also enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, going to picnics and playing Legos with his grandchildren.  Merton loved watching and routing for the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and NASCAR.

He cherished spending time with family and friends.  He was beloved and will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include seven children, George Simons and his wife, Ann, of Chicago, Illinois, Melvin Simons of Linesville, Nina Reinhart and her significant other, James Brubaker, of Linesville, Merton A. Simons and his wife, Shirley, of Meadville, Dennis Simons and his significant other, Helen, of Conneaut Lake, Brenda Cooper and her husband, Jay, of Saegertown, and David Simons and his wife, Marty, of Linesville; step-children, Monnie and David Bishoff; a brother, Harold Simons Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Tidioute; a sister, Audrey Campbell of Tidioute; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Miles E. Simons; his mother and step-father, Kathleen and Edward Kline; his first wife, Maryleen Joyce Ann Denison; his second wife, Nancy Stoneman who passed away on January 24, 2008; and a sister, Marion Kerstetter.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Smith of the Linesville First Baptist Church officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Southside Cemetery in Shermansville.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home.
