Michelle Louise Ray Groover “Shelly”, 50, of Meadville, passed peacefully through death and into eternal life on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
Shelly was born on February 27, 1972, to Donald and Rosemarie Ray of Linesville.
She graduated from Linesville High School and went on to attend Gannon University where she earned her BSN in nursing. Soon after, she began her true calling as an ICU nurse at Meadville Medical Center. Shelly loved her career and it showed through the many patients she cared for.
Shelly loved to volunteer with the MS Society to raise money and support for those who had the same diagnosis that she had.
On September 10, 2005, Shelly married Michael Groover, who loved and cared for her like no other could during her long battle with MS. She and Michael loved doing crosswords together and she routinely dominated in playing Jeopardy!
Though MS ultimately claimed her physical body, it was never able to tarnish her exuberant love of life, formidable spirit, and beautiful smile.
Shelly is survived by her husband, Michael; her father, Donald Ray; her sisters, Debra Ray, Christy Alphin (Fred), Kate Ray; her brother, David Ray (Melissa); nieces and nephews, Madison Norville (Will), Ethan Ray, Price Alphin, Zhanna Ray, Caroline Alphin; stepchildren and grandchildren, Alicia Groover, Nathan Groover (Maddie), Delilah and Elijah Groover.
Shelly was preceded in death by her mother, Rosemarie and her brother, Michael.
Shelly’s family would like to thank the many caregivers who had been involved in her care over the years both at home and at Rolling Fields Nursing Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shelly’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charitable organization of your choice.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September, 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 24 at the funeral home with Rev. Rachel Johns officiating.
Burial will be private at Greendale Cemetery in Meadville.
