Peter Ralph Ferraino

January 29, 1934 — August 22, 2020

Peter Ralph Ferraino of Linesville, PA was born in Kittanning, PA, to Fred and Bruna on January 29, 1934, and died at home surrounded by his loving family, on August 22, 2020.

He married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Ferraino (nee Woodall) on June 9, 1956, and together they raised four children: David Ferraino (Donna), Mary Ann Kohlmiller (Michael), Annette Egan-Kidd (Todd), and Deanna Ferraino. He is survived by his wife and children as well as his grandchildren: Angela Van DeWater, Adam Ferraino, Amber Malinowski, Megan Bruno, Rachel Kohlmiller, Katherine Kohlmiller, Emily Kohlmiller, Trenae Webster, Peter Egan, and step-grandson Josh Kidd and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Dory, and sister-in-law Lois.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bruna Ferraino, his brother Fred “June,” and sister, Mary, and brother-in-law Harry, as well as his grand-daughter, Leah.

Pete said that he always felt the guidance of his Lord through his lifetime. He was grateful for the doors that were opened for him when his former high school guidance counselor reached out to him several years after his graduation from Kittanning High School in 1951 to connect him with a scholarship program at Triangle School of Drafting and Design, from which he graduated in 1954. He loved his work as a mechanical engineer for PPG industries first in the Ford City plant and then in the Meadville plant. He enjoyed creating and fixing things, from cars to home repairs and renovations, to the loving care that he poured into his beautifully kept lawn and flower and vegetable gardens.

Pete was a generous volunteer. For many years he coordinated a group of carolers to visit people who were grieving or unable to get out during the holidays. He volunteered with the Special Olympics, donated blood regularly, with an annual youth day at the Pymatuning Sportsmen’s club, and could be found on some snowy days driving around in one of his many red Ford Trucks to help drivers in distress.

Pete was always active throughout his life; hunting deer and small game, fishing, and golfing.  He played baseball, softball and high school football. He coached little league baseball in Kittanning and Harmonsburg, PA.  Pete was a member of Hose co. #6 fire department in Kittanning, PA. He was past Grand Knight and a member of the Knights of Columbus council 6037. He committed many years working at the K. of C. and St. Philip's bingo. As a member of the Pymatuning Sportsmen’s Club, he volunteered at the annual youth day. He sang in the church choir at St. Mary’s church and also was a cantor and choir member at St Philip's church in Linesville. He was a dedicated and ever-hopeful Steelers’ Football fan.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.  The Knights of Columbus will say the rosaries at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville with Father Chris Hamlett as celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Philip Cemetery.
