Raymond J. (Ray-Ray) Powell, 77, of Westford, passed away at Park Avenue Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Meadville. Prior to moving to Jamestown (Westford), Pa in 2004, he resided in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh and West Mifflin.
Born January 15, 1939, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Raymond J. Powell Sr. and Marie O’Donnell Powell.
Ray is survived by Kathleen (Katie) Kapres, who has been his loving partner for many years, of Westford; three sons, Raymond Powell, Gary Powell and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Powell; two grandchildren, Nicholas Powell and Brianna Powell. Brother of Jimmy (Sandra Lee Williams) Powell, of Kingman, Arizona, Marie Horvath, Kathryn (Fred) Vitanza, Dan (Pat) Powell, Liz Powell, Jack (Sheri) Powell, and Mike (Gina) Powell, all of the Pittsburgh area. Also numerous nieces, nephew, extended family and friends.
He was retired from the United States Postal Service and the Mon-Con Railroad, LTV in Pittsburgh. Ray was a Marine who served overseas during the Lebanon conflict in the late 1950’s and was a lifetime member of the Jamestown Veterans of Foreign Wars and a social member of the American Legion. He was also a social member of the Pymatuning Sportsman’s Club in Linesville and the Conneaut Lake Park #5 Volunteer Fire Department.
Ray will always be remembered for his “Jokes, Rhymes and Stories” (of which he had many), his singing ability, especially Karaoke, and his love of Pittsburgh (except for traffic) and the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. Ray always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He was a caring and compassionate man who loved life and lived it to its fullest. All who knew him will miss him terribly, as a light has been extinguished on this earth due to his passing.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 2, at noon at St. John and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 2586 Wexford Bayne Rd, Sewickley PA 15143. Ray Ray, being a Marine, will have a military funeral immediately following at Calvary Cemetery, Greenfield.
A local memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Hwy 6, Linesville, Pa 16424.
