Robert D. Winkle Sr., 90, of Hartstown, passed away, on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community in Meadville.
Born December 6, 1924, in Swissvale, he was the son of Frank Sr. and Dorothy Baker Winkle. He married Elanda Mae Brown on September 5, 1946, in Hartstown. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2014.
He graduated from Fallowfield High School in 1942. Bob served our country in the United States Army and Reserves for over 13 years during World War II and the Korean War.
For 39 years, he worked as a truck driver for Christie Oil and then R-K Oil now Klausen Oil Company.
He was a member of the Atlantic Community Church. For many years, he and his wife Elanda, volunteered for the Samaritans.
Bob enjoyed playing baseball and softball while he was in the military and also played baseball for the Jamestown Redbirds. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bob cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Survivors include four children, James N. Winkle and his wife, Paula, of Adamsville, Elyce J. Sefert of Hartstown, Robert David Winkle Jr. and his wife, Jill, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Gordon Ray Winkle of Hartstown; five grandchildren, Bryan Sefert of Linesville, Randy Sefert and his wife, Becky, of Hartstown, Ben Winkle and his wife, Gina, of Greenville, Valerie Nottingham and her husband, Jeremy, of Atlantic, and Shannon McClimans and her husband, Jimmy, of Hartstown; four step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Frank Winkle Jr. and William Richard Winkle; and a sister, Dorothy Grace Buckley.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. William Rogers, Pastor of High Street Community Church in Conneaut Lake officiating. Full military honors will follow the funeral service.
Private burial will be in Rocky Glen Cemetery in Adamsville.
