Robert L. (Bob) Henry, 89, of Linesville and Brooksville, Florida, left his earthly home to reside in his eternal home on Friday, November 28, 2014, after a period of declining health, at Rolling Fields in Conneautville where he had resided for the past three years.
Born May 2, 1925 in Conneaut Township, Crawford County, he was the son of Hazen and Dorothy Henry and step-mother Leona Henry. He married Marie Carroll on October 23, 1948 at the Baptist Parsonage in Greenville. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2000.
He was a graduate of Linesville High School. He then served our country in the United States Army during World War II.
Bob was quite the entrepreneur having started several businesses including Henry’s Sweet Corn and Packing, Henry’s Snack Bar, Henry’s Fruit Stand, Henry’s Garbage Disposal and sold bread to feed the fish in the little red house. Throughout the years he and Marie employed several people in the Linesville area and many remember him for picking corn to pack and ship to the Pittsburgh strip district.
He served his community in many ways including starting the Rotary International chapter in Linesville, being a member of the Linesville Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Crawford County Tourist Association. He served in the Pymatuning State Park campground ministry as well as having the distinction of being the longest living member of Linesville First Baptist Church.
He instilled a sense of community and servants’ heart to all he interacted with. He was a friendly person who enjoyed a good conversation and he loved to solve problems by building and coming up with creative solutions.
Bob enjoyed many hobbies and activities including golfing, wood carving, rebuilding player pianos, playing cards, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Larry Henry and his wife, Linda, of Linesville; two daughters, Sandy Janes of Meadville and Rita Marwood and her husband, Steve, of Linesville; five grandsons, Mike Henry and his wife, Cindy, Greg Henry and his wife, Dee, Ryan Janes and his wife, Emily, Brad Marwood and his wife, Kortney, and Tyler Marwood and his wife, Kate; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin Henry, Madeline Henry, Tenley Janes, Stella Janes, Caleb Marwood and Kaylyn Marwood; a step-sister, Maxine Henningson; sister-in-law, Lauretta Henry; two brothers-in-laws, Tom Kornman and Paul Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie, of 52 years; a son, Richard Henry; two sisters, Joyce Grapatin and her husband, Arthur, and Jean Arnold and her husband, Shorty; a brother, William Henry; and sister-in-law, Joanne Kornman.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Linesville First Baptist Church, 6114 U.S. Hwy 6, Linesville, with Pastor Art Barnes officiating.
Burial will be private in Linesville Cemetery.
