Ronda (Nickerson) Buchmeier

January 19, 1963 — January 23, 2021

Ronda (Nickerson) Buchmeier, 58, of Cheshire, Connecticut, departed this life on January 23, 2021, at home, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Greenville, PA on January 19, 1963, to the late Ronald and Nancy (Waring) Nickerson. She spent her childhood in Linesville, PA, and was active both in her church and the 4-H Organization. Ronda enjoyed horseback riding, and owned horses while still at home with her parents.

Ronda graduated from Linesville High School in 1981 and received her bachelor's degree in family social work from Edinboro State University. She went on to complete her master's degree in her field from Southern Connecticut State University.  In 1991, she married Richard Buchmeier, Jr.  They later divorced.

She was a family services case worker, and later a supervisor, for the State of Connecticut's Department of Developmental Services. Ronda was very community-conscious, and volunteered for Lights of Hope, an organization that raised funds for a wide variety of charities. She also served at a local food pantry and soup kitchen. She kept in touch with many people she had met over the years and was a great source of encouragement. Ronda loved to travel and enjoyed a wide variety of arts and crafts. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends, but family was most important to her. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with (and taking pictures of) her sons, who were her pride and joy.

Ronda is survived by two sons Benjamin Buchmeier and Nicholas Buchmeier; and two brothers, Randy (Nancy) Nickerson of Linesville and Rob (Cheryl) Nickerson of Litchfield, Illinois.

Services will be held on Sunday, January 31st from 2-4PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home in Wallingford, Connecticut.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Lights of Hope, Inc., PO Box 553, Cheshire, CT, 06410 (cheshireslightsofhope.com) or to the Cancer Research Institute, 29 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10006-3111 (cancerresearch.org).
