Rosemary G. Giles, 77, of Linesville, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2016, at the Meadville Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 15, 1938, in Wicken, England, she was the daughter of William and Audrey Mayle Avey. She married Herb Giles on December 21, 1957, in Wicken, England.
Rosemary had worked in her younger years at Graham’s School in Linesville for several years. For thirty years, she worked for the Days Inn in Meadville starting as a hostess and waitress and then as the Dining Room Manager.
She was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. For many years, she was active in funeral luncheons at the church. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary at the Linesville American Legion Post 462.
Rosemary enjoyed dancing and loved to laugh. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed riding around her yard in her golf cart. She loved her neighbor lady’s dogs. Rosemary was most proud to be crowned Senior Miss Waterfowl in 2009 and to share the royalty with her great-granddaughter, Michaela, as Jr. Miss Waterfowl.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, Herb Giles; four daughters, Vickie Petruso and her husband, John, of Meadville, Rosalee Rose and her husband, Francis, of Linesville, Debbie Wickham and her husband, Vern, of Meadville, and Lindy Graham and her husband, Roger, of Linesville; a son, Steven Giles and his wife, Charlene, of Globe, Arizona; 15 grandchildren, Susan Imposimato, and her husband, Tony, Neil Braswell and his wife, Stacy, Monica Young and her companion, Cameron Johnson, Michael Young and his wife, Kris, Marcus Young and his wife, Reneta, Nathan Young and his wife, Bri, Heather Baird and her husband, Ryan, Elyn Wickham, Tyler Wickham, Haillee Wickham, Jennifer Lisko and her husband, Mike, Jeffery Graham, Matthew Giles, Bridget Wilson and her husband, Jason, and Steven Giles; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Miller of Conneautville; a sister-in-law, Sara Corey of Linesville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister and brother, Audrey and William Avey; and an infant granddaughter, Alli Rae Wickham.
C alling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville. A rosary service will be conducted 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville, with Father Joseph Sedley as celebrant. Additional calling hours will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Philip Cemetery.
