Vera M. (Jones) Sickles, formerly of Conneaut Lake, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 23, 2024, at UPMC Horizon in Greenville, at the age of 101.
She was born May 10, 1922, to Morgan and Amy (Atwood) Jones in Linesville, and was the youngest of three children. Vera married Raymond M. Sickles on January 31, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1998. Vera and Ray were parents of six children.
Vera is survived by four children; Richard Sickles (Judy), Nancy Hamilton (Ned), Robert Sickles (Gaynel) and Lori Shorts (Ed). She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Danielle Sickles; grandchildren, Amy Durovey (John), Robert Oliver Jr. (Anneka), Matthew Sickles, Sonya Jo Storll (Scott), Mike Robel (Karin), Rebecca Gardner (Jason), Bob Sickles Jr. (Jessica), Andrea Corner (Mike) and Suni Loucks (Kevin); 20 great-grandchildren;12 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; son, Mark Sickles; daughter, Linda Robel; and two sisters, Hazel Mickle and Edna Rudler.
Vera was the “beloved matriarch” of a very large family and was loved, respected and cherished by all whose lives she touched. She spent most of her life dedicated to her family, but was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel with Ray and friends throughout their marriage and later in life traveled with her children to Hawaii, California, Florida and North Carolina.
For many years she was an active member of Linesville Pleasant Hour Club, Linesville Women’s Club, Worthy Matron and District Matron of Eastern Stars, was the longest living member of the Linesville Baptist Church and flower committee chairman for the church, past member of Red Hat Club and current member of Watson Run Women’s Club.
Her family will always cherish the memories of her fried chicken, potato salad, homemade pies and cream puffs. But most importantly her beautiful smile, laugh and loving nature will always be remembered.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at St. Paul’s for the wonderful care Vera received during her time there.
Calling hours will be Thursday, February 29 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
A funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Smith officiating.
Burial will be private in Linesville Cemetery.
