Florence May (Weir) Gillette

Florence May Gillette, 89, of Linesville passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at the Meadville Medical Center.

Born October 1, 1931, in Washington, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Charles and Blanche Weir.  She married Allen (Fuzzy) Lloyd Gillette on December 14, 1952; he preceded her in death on November 5, 1995.

She was a graduate of Linesville High School.  Florence graduated from Thiel College with a Bachelor’s of Science and a Bachelor’s of English.  She then received her Masters Plus at Edinboro University.  For almost 40 years, she taught English at the Conneaut School District.  She started the Gifted Program for the elementary students in Crawford County.  Florence also had started the Gifted Program for high school students in the Conneaut School District.  She had a love and passion for teaching.

Florence was a member of the Linesville First Baptist Church and for 17 years taught junior church.  She helped in starting the Linesville Public Library and the Linesville Historical Society.  She belonged to the Doll Society in Meadville.  She enjoyed making porcelain dolls and writing stories for the dolls that she made for her grandchildren.   Florence also loved to paint on china plates.  She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Wesley) Nicholas of Linesville; a son-in-law, Bernard Greely of Washington; five grandchildren, Gregory Greely, Sandra Nicholas (Andrew Duncan), Benjamin (Randi) Greely, Jennifer Greely and Johnathan Nicholas; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Hayden, Owen, Miles and Isabella; a sister, Mary E. Baker of Linesville; a brother-in-law, Carlton Blood; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Rebekah Jane Greely; and a sister, Sarah Blood.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.  A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Rachel Johns of the Linesville Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be private in Linesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Linesville Public Community Library, P.O. Box 97, Linesville, Pa 16424.
