Thomas A. Shearer

Thomas A. Shearer, 86, of 6180 Atlantic Lake Rd., Hartstown, died July 11, 2014 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in East Fallowfield Township on August 20, 1927, a son of the late Warren S. Shearer and Pearl Arthurs Shearer.  He married Annabelle Mariacher on September 26, 1953 and she survives.

He was a 1945 graduate of East Fallowfield High School and a veteran of WWII, serving as a U.S. Army Sergeant in South Korean occupation from 1946 until 1947.  He enjoyed a fifty year career as a builder, including several churches, post offices, houses and farm buildings.

In the 1970 and 80’s he traveled to Central and South America, Africa, and several trips to Haiti on short-term missions trip for building projects for missionaries.

He was a seventy year member of the Fallowfield United Methodist Church, and a current member of the missions committee.  He was a member of the school board for 11 ½ years and the first chairman of the newly formed Conneaut school district.  He is past NG of Fallowfield Lodge 1128 IOOF, and the chairman of the McMichael Cemetery Association.  He enjoyed rural living on the land of his birth.

Survivors include his wife Annabelle of sixty years; two daughters, Pamela Walters of Texas, and Karen Ellison, and her husband, Arthur of Knoxville, Tennessee; a son, Dale Shearer and his wife, Linda, of Hartstown; four grandchildren, Matthew Walters, Rebekah, Sarah and Amanda Shearer; three step-grandchildren, Chad, Catherine and Michael Ellison; a sister, Luella McCurdy Mallery, who is 100 years old, of Youngsville, Pa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois McCurdy Baker, a nephew, William Baker, and a son-in-law, Lawrence Walters.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fallowfield United Methodist Church, 3993 Leach Road, Atlantic. Additional calling hours will be Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. David A. Bell Sr., pastor of the church, officiating.

Burial with full military honors provided by the Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be in McMichael Cemetery in East Fallowfield Township.
